    How To Do Articles

How hard would it be to have a How To Do Section on this forum? A place for articles like Richard Mozzetta and Tom Parsons have done. Coping these articles to your computer is not always easy, at least for me. I realize these articles could also go to the Restorer but some have way more pictures than the magazine could print.
    Just my old two cents

      Re: How To Do Articles

That's a great idea either having a section for the do it yourself or direct the articles to "The Restorer". It would be more beneficial to have the articles or restoration projects in writing and photographs rather than always bringing them to the top of the thread time after time and searching for a topic.
Also the do it yourself articles might more benefit the readers if it were on CD. Then more instructions could accompany each picture with how the writer achieved that result.
Some retail distributors have do it yourself projects on line already. Free to anyone and can be accessed anytime.
      Just some thoughts!

I have done that over on Digital corvettes. I have a lot of threads of how to's with many pictures. If that doesn't work here you can go there and get them or just email me for the link.

I have had some requests for the links, is there any reason I can't start a thread here with the link??

Same reason I maintain a webpage...links to published articles. I agree we need a "goto" page for resources. I've taken topics here after doing the search and creating my own file so when I get ready for a restoration project, I have what I need in one place that is retrievable. While forum members do some great tech work, access to images can be frustrating such as when photobucket it used. Its mission becomes to push out ads rather than host one's images and takes way too long to access.

Great idea! But you know, NCRS does publish CDs by generation and is a great resource but then it gets dated after a few years.

Alternatively we already have an easy way to identify "How to do" posts. OP include "How to do" Tag on the post. Then using Advanced Search
users do a Tag search for "How to do" and results would be a listing of How to Do threads.

Second alternative: Is it possible to do an Icon search? If so, the OP could include a "wrench" icon with the post. Search for wrench icons. (I don't see a way to do an icon search in "Advanced Search" but seems like it should be possible.)

                      Dave
on the home page with list of current threads, just find any thread with a wrench next to it and click on the wrench. Or for that matter click on any icon next to any thread. All threads with that icon will be listed.

Alternatively, find any thread started by Rich Mozzetta, or Gary Ramadei, or Tom Parsons, or anyone who routinely writes Hot To Do threads. Click on that name and then click on the link that opens that says View Forum Posts. You will get a list of their DB posts.

Terry, to get your proposal to the the powers that be, contact your Regional Rep and submit your proposal. As suggested, if you volunteer to assist the IT team to set up the new forum your proposal would have the best chance of being approved.

                        Re: How To Do Articles

I suggested something along the same lines in the past. Virtually every chapter quarterly newsletter has at least one "how-to" tech article. I have searched through some of these -- they are great. I wish those could be consolidated in one location for easy searching and downloading. Now to search chapter newsletters you have to go to each chapter website and then open each pdf file and scroll down to the how to article.

Would it be possible to ask or direct chapters to submit their tech articles to NCRS - just the tech articles and place them in a library on this website and group them into logical categories, by year, by generation, by topic..... whatever. There's gold in them thar newsletters!

New features and functions require New resources. Currently, NCRS barely has enough volunteer resources to keep everything going as it is.

Easy to want, hard to produce. Just saying!

As Thomas Jefferson said; "I believe that every human mind feels pleasure in doing good to another."

                            Gary,

I can't argue with what you say one bit -- things are rough all over. It is just unfortunate that all that documented expert knowledge that appears in chapter newsletters is not available to a wider audience. If each chapter would (could) create establish a reference folder of stand alone pdf files of how-to articles submitted by their chapter members that would be a giant step in the right direction.

Ed...I am supposed to receive every chapter newsletter, and many of them I do, and very often I contact the author of the article and ask for permission to print it in an upcoming issue of The Restorer so all the members can benefit, not just the few that receive the chapter newsletters...I have many in my queue right now...
