    oil leaks

    Hey guys,
I have three c1's all solid lifter high performance engines. two fuelies and one 340 hp. all of these are rebuilt engines and all do the same thing. I am wondering if this is normal? I get oil that comes out of the road draft tube on the back of my engines? they call for a non vented oil filler cap. I changed them to vented to try to reduce the crank case pressure but it didn't help. T am wondering if there is something I can do? or is this normal? don't like the spots on my garage floor. am running 20/40 oil. btw there is no oil leaks from the pan or elsewhere.
    thanks,
    Bruce

    Bruce,
I think it is normal as I see it all the time on the down draft tubes on aircraft engines with out oil separators. The oil separator lets the oil vapor condense and return to the engine. I believe your oil separator is under the manifold. They work OK under the manifold but only reduce the oil that would really go down the tube.

Nice concise explanation Dom, I agree with you 100% with regard to the flying analogy and also to the early Vettes wih road draft tubes. I don't get much oil, just a drop or so sometimes on the end of the tube. I use a large flat aviation drip pan under the engine of each car. Not only does it save the floor, but you can easily spot any fluids that leak like oil, coolant PS fluid ect.... Dan

It is just the nature of the beast, it is after all over 55 years old, with mostly 1940's technology. I don't know about you but after 55 I started to leak a little too!
