    Re: Might buy a 56

Hey guys, A big thank you to everyone that has contributed to my post. I have had a lot of great feedback on and off this forum, and have received solid confirmation that this 56 is a special car. Many examples have been shared in comparison to this car and it's S.O. #.Those examples have obviously been highly documented to be able to label them as such. (S.O.#s before and after this particular car) With this knowledge, there has to be specific documentation on this car as well. Thanks again to everyone. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!!!!

Is this what a typical SO tag looks like? As a learning point, I'd like to see a photo showing where it's mounted.

Is this one fastened with two different types of screws? Or is that just an illusion from the photo?

Wow just read this thread yesterday. Nice!

Jim, I spoke to John Baldwin. He has no info on SO 90074. His 1957 Super Sport is SO90181, apx Styling build date began shortly after June 28th of 1956.

He said that the SO numbers were not just complete cars. It could've been anything, parts, transmissions, brackets, etc. Anything that the Engineering or Styling dept were assigned.

When you find the car vin#, also check if frame has same #. It's stamped in 2 places, below driver seat on top of frame. Use a mirror. You may have to push the floor upward and clean it for better view.

          Exciting find.

Hey guys, The owner of this car (in his 80s now) has had a very long history with corvettes among other classics. So much so, he obliged a request to shut down his shop for a week to go and help compose what became the judging manual you know today. (He is not credited, why, I don't know) Many of you might know the name Bill Frick. The owner and him were close, he called him Willie. Willie was the one that told him about S.O. 90074, and that he should buy it some 40 years ago, knowing that it was special but not why. All of these years later............there is more questions than answers. What is the S.O.# for Prince Bertil's 56? or the 56 that debuted at Amelia Island a few months ago? Both are referred to as extremely rare, so how many S.O.s were built in 56? I need to understand the answers to these questions before I spend a small fortune on a 56 Corvette that's only purpose might have been to try out a newly designed rear view mirror or such. I HAVE learned that some of those with access to the documents that would answer my questions are only willing to purchase and restore the car for themselves, Instead of allowing someone else to enjoy what they have been enjoying for many years. ( Not possible if someone had not helped them. HHHMMM). For some reason I found myself in the position to have this torch handed off to me. No, I'm not an old Corvette guru. I am not filthy rich, and Yes, I am a younger new enthusiast. I would think that would be embraced rather than held against me by those in the know. Knowledge does no good in the grave. With all of that, I am willing to pay a finders fee of $2500.00 for the SPECIFIC documents on S.O.90074 in person. Details will be discussed as needed. As always, THANKS for your time!!!! P.S. Awesome job on Mike Hunt survey data Richard!!!! P.s.s. The S.O. plate does have two different screws, untouched since the owner bought the car, and has solid reason to believe that's how it left it's maker. It is mounted on the passenger side of fire wall running nose to tail.

              Jim,

Try the folks at the GM Heritage Center. They may have something on it.
