'64 dash cover end tab rivet color

    Hello,
What is correct for the color of the 5 rivets that secure the end tabs of the dash cover to the body in the door jamb A-pillar area? The latest "63-"64 judging guide shows they should be body color (painted)regardless of interior and exterior color combinations, while the previous judging guide shows black rivets (no paint) when the interior and exterior colors are the same. Which interpretation is correct?? I would guess the earlier JG is correct. If the interior / exterior colors are the same, what would the point have been for the factory to spray paint just the rivet heads?

Here is how it works. If you have same color interior dash as body the rivets are unpainted. So rivets will appear black. If the interior dash is different color than the body this "tab" area will be sprayed over in body color. Now understand this body color may appear different than surrounding area since it is shot at different time and does not have same undercoatings. Thus a small area of the vinyl dash pad will possibly have some body color paint on the adjacent area that the mask misses.

I think you will find that 64 rivets were aluminum and not black. I know that by 67 the rivets were black but earlier cars were just plain aluminum. Don't know what year they changed to black.

My early 65 built in Nov 64 is black so it must be in 64 year that supplier change was made to black.

Anyone have very late 64, what color rivets when same color dash and exterior.............?

March 64, black w black/white: rivets are black. Owned since Aug 1967 and know original owner (a NCRS member), so these are original.
The combo has black dash and black exterior, no paint.
