1967 Brake Hard Line replacement (front to rear)

    just a quick questions...

on a 67 can I switch out the long hard line w/o lifting up the body from the frame? (power brakes)
and do all this with the car up on tall jack-stands...

any quick and dirty pointer greatly appreciated!

I agree.............and I did it myself a few years ago on my 1967 car. Need patience and a thin open end wrench to get to the tubing clip bolts. I used an ignition wrench that is very thin profile. You can also use a grinder and thin down a standard wrench yourself. Only one bolt that I was able to loosen but not able to remove.............so I cut the clamp with a sidecut pliers to get it out. For the new clamp, I cut it so that it was a U-slot and not a hole, and then slid in on the tubing and bolt that could not be removed and tightened up the bolt.

You will need to slightly bend and then unbend the tubing at each end to get everything to fit correctly in the frame. My finished job was excellent and looked like the factory install.

      Just remember PATIENCE FWIW.

As mentioned the forward most line clamp is tough to get at and a thin 1/2" wrench is a must. Replacing it is easier if you cut a few threads from the tip to shorten it.

The rearward section is a bit tricky to get bent and positioned properly, clamped and bent and aligned with the brass junction block, which is accessible from behind the crossmember. If you are replacing all lines I suggest new brass blocks as well.

Doing this on tall jack stands will be a challenge as the long line must pass through the center crossmember and the angle will fight you so you'll have to bend/un-bend as you go. Photo sequence below for reference..
