    69 rally wheel paint

Can or does anyone know if the argent silver paint with that greenish hue is available. is there a paint code and formula to match?

Do you want to buy the paint in aerosol cans or do you want bulk paint. Both are available.

        Re: 69 rally wheel paint

It's easy to find argent silver, but difficult to find it with the green tint used in 69/70.
We ended up custom mixing our own. If you search in the Archives there is a Mitsubishi color that really is close to the original. I might suggest tweaking the metallic size a bit, as the one specified is a bit too large and noticeable.

Check the bottom of the page under "similar threads" and you might find it.

The last link doesn't specify it's actually the green tint, just that it's Argent Silver.
The CC paint is new since we did our rims, and the CF linked thread shows that the paint doesn't appear all that green.

I would buy a test can of the CC paint before you strip your original rims, and see how close it is.
You might do better having an original rim color matched.

Original wheels have inconsistent green tint from 1969 to 1970. It is not even consistent through a given model year, although my observations are that it is greener in 1969 and less green as the 1970 model year progresses. If you really wish to be true to your car you should have the color matched to one of your original wheels. Any "off the shelf" preparation or color formula will only be an approximation of what the wheel color originally was.
I am convinced there was someone at Kelsey Hayes who threw buckets of green paint into rail cars of argent silver just to confuse us 40+ years later.

There's a web site called Classic TA. They list a Argent Silver/ Green in a spray can. Search on the color. First one up will be Argent Silver. Scroll down to Argent Silver/Green. Maybe you can call them and ask for references.

I had the paint color-matched at an automotive paint supplier. It came out PERFECT.

Mark Look for this Thread Argent silver paint from Sept 19 2011 started by Deane McGoldrick. There is a formula listed there.

Joe, can you get the formula from the supplier you used?

Unfortunately, I cannot. The guy that did it was an old-timer and he did it by almost a "trial-and-error" process, using my original spare tire wheel (which had always been in the spare carrier) as the model. He was able to get it virtually exact but, of course, I did not end up with a formula. He told me that was going to happen the way he did it but I told him it was OK because I probably wouldn't need any more in the future.

RALLY ARGENT GREEN 1969 PAINT FORMULA.

                          Used the following formula:

                          Makes 1 qt

                          Color Units (non-cumulative)
                          DMR 433 416
                          DMR 435 420
                          DXR 495 20
                          DMR 499 160

Had Tower paint in Oshkosh, WI mix it and put it in an Aerosol can for me as it could not be done in California due to air quality restrictions.

I have painted the spare wheel of my 69 with this paint. It has only been judged at the local level in Southern California without a deduct but never at a higher level of competition. It has now been judged at the Lone Star Regional without any deduct in points.

Argent Silver is a color that has changed through the years.

                          I hope this helped.

Where is the best place to go typically to get this mixed into an aerosol can? Can I order it online?

I would think u could go to any automotive paint supplier. I have had other formulas matched and put into aerosol.

I have tried argent in a can and never green enough though may try the corvette central product. I had originals on my last 69 and know that green hue.

My current 68 had wrong rallys and just purchased a set with correct date and media blasted and primed so can not color match.

The backs r semigloss black with argent over spray on them, correct?
