    70 Seat Belt Anchor Cable

The seat belt anchor cable I removed from my car appears to have a gray phosphate plating on the end pieces and cable. I have no idea if the part is original or not. Eckler's sells replacement cables for 71 to 74 Corvettes which have a black rubber covering over the center portion of the cable; they do not sell a 70 cable. My cable does not have the black rubber covering over the center section. What does a correct 70 seat belt anchor cable look like?

    Thanks,
    Allen

1965-69 Corvettes used seat belt cable GM #3863625. 1970-74 Corvettes used cable GM #3977713. However, I expect it's possible that very early 1970 may have used the 3863625.

The GM #3977713 is longer than the 3863625 but I cannot tell you the exact length of either cable. Also, the configuration of the end brackets is slightly different and the 3863625 end brackets are usually phosphate-finished while the 3977713 brackets are usually zinc plated.

      Thank you Joe.

I do have an early car. The serial number is 2664, built on Feb. 4, 1970.

I just found the cable in the 1970 A.I.M. on page F27 and it shows the seat belt cable to be GM #3977713.

Does anyone else have an early 70 car with a seat belt cable GM #3863625? The grease and dirt buildup on my cable was consistent with what was on the frame so I feel the cable is original to my car.

I have access to an early 70. Pictures are not the best, as the car was sitting on the floor. This car is a little earlier than yours, so this should be good reference.

Note it does have a few inches of rubber coating where it is trapped by the frame. But, not the whole cable is coated.

Thank you too Gary. I was going to ask you to do that, but I didn't want to interrupt your other activities. That is #2161 January 29, right?

Re: 70 Seat Belt Anchor Cable

I am wondering if the initial GM #3977713 cable in 1970 was grey phosphate plated, and was switched to zinc plating in 1971. I haven't been able to confirm this in my research, but vendors think there is a difference in the 1970 cable vs. 1971-74 cable. The reproduction cables being sold are zinc plated. Terry's and my cable look grey phosphate plated.
