    1968 Corvette Questions...

I recently purchased a 1968 Convertible and renewed my membership after a few years out of the hobby...sometimes life just gets in the way...

I can not seem to find an answer to a simple question: if you ordered PO1 wheel covers what rim came with the car? A rally rim, sans the center cap or trim ring, or a standard 15x7 steel rim? Where they stamped, and if so how?

Also, what exactly is N11 off road exhaust?

I plan to post details on the car and want to get it flight judged locally in order to establish a base line on what needs to be corrected...lots probably...

The N11 has less baffling in the mufflers other than that they look the same as standard exhaust. Sorry I'm not versed in the full wheel covers other than they are heavy.

Wheels are the same AG coded wheels. The PO1s replace the trim rings and derby centers.

Mike is correct. My 1972 was delivered new with the PO1 wheel covers and they were mounted on the bare standard rally wheels.

I thought the N11 mufflers were just a chambered pipe...they look the same?

Also my center carb has correct Chevrolet number., holley list and date stamped the on air horn. The outer carbs just holley list and a 4 digit number under it...is that correvt?

The N-11 mufflers appeared outwardly virtually the same as standard mufflers. However, there was a difference internally. Standard mufflers had 3 cylindrical internal baffles; N-11 had 2.

By the way, 1968 was the last year for N-11.

HOLLY numbers on 3x2 carbs. 1st digit year, 2nd digit month , 3rd= digit week of production. In 1973, date codes went to 4 digits. Also LIST # is the Holly number, And there is a GM part # on original carbs .

              example date 982= 1969, 8=August, 2= 2nd week.,

1973-75 production went to 4 digits. First 3 were month and day, 4th digit is year. EXAMPLE 2114= 211= July 30, 4= 1974

Thank you, James, but my question was do all three carbs (i.e.-the front and rear carbs as well as center) have GM part number, Holley list and date code? My center has all three and is correct for car...outer 2 just a Holley list and a 4 digit number that I have not been able to figure out yet.

After somewhere around 1972, Holley went to a four digit date coding system. This is probably what you are seeing. The first three digits are the Juliian date code and the fourth digit is the year. Example 1205 would be the 120th day in the year 1975 or 1985 or 1995.

What are your four numbers and Holley List numbers??

The PO2 wheel covers are beautiful, especially with a white stripe tire. I had a '69 that had them and the original owner wouldn't pay for them because he didn't order them. The dealer credited the cost on the invoice.

Original Holley carbs had the GM part number stamped on the air horn in the vicinity of the Holley list number. GM SERVICE Holley carbs had the GM part number, too. In addition, SERVICE carbs available through Holley usually had the GM part number. And, current Holley reproduction carbs also have the original GM part number on them. So, the mystery to me is how you have some correct list number Holley carbs that don't have the GM part number on them. All I could guess is that for some period of time SERVICE carbs available through Holley didn't have the GM part numbers on them. The date code on your carb might just establish when that period of time was.

I love PO1s and will put them on car eventually, though not on my Tank Sticker...

OK, my car was assembled 2nd week in June 68.

My center carb has part # 3940929-EV, under that LIST 4055-1 under that 852. (May 2 or 2nd week 68?) That appears correct.

The front and rear carbs are the same:LIST-3659, under that 0765. I believe LIST is correct...but no part number and 4 digit date? What are they?

                              More questions:

                              1. I need the storage box that goes above the jack...I see repops and originals on Epay...how good it the repop? Most originals, even if in good condition, are cracked around top edges. I plan on flight judging in future so dont want to get a repop if will result in a point deduction.

                              2. What is typical date coding on original AG matching rims? One guy on Epay has a set of four with identical dates (all 2-1) but I am sure all original sets are not identical...another set is 2 of one date and 2 another date 20 days apart. (4-23 and 5-13) I assume within 6 months to build date (my car mid June 68) is acceptable but I like the April and May set...want full judging points if I am going to get a proper set.
