    Bow Tie Award Questions

I would like to get the protocol needed to get an un-restored Vette judged for a Bow Tie award. What do I need to do? It was
judged in a local meet in 2016 but would like to take it to a regional meet. Thanks Al

    Re: Bow Tie Award

    Hello Al
You'll get a more complete answer from guys who have gone through the process but I think the reader's digest is that you register for your Regional meet and contact the National Team Leader in advance and request to have Bow tie sign off
at the same time at that meet. The protocol is outlined in the Judging Reference Manual which you definitely should review before you embark on Bow tie/ Star judging. Others will correct me if I'm wrong.
    Good luck!

      Alfred,

NCRS Judging Awards are explained on this page: https://www.ncrs.org/services/judging-awards.php page down for Bowtie

The enter process is spelled out in depth in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual, which can be ordered from the Store:
https://www.ncrs.org/shop/index.php?...roducts_id=221 click on the Description tab for detailed info.

I was a member of the interior team that Bowtie Judged a car at the Denver National. Not only do we have to decide on the part as being correct for the car it must also be the part the car was born with. It took us 4 hours to judge the interior. As we judge the areas, Interior, Exterior, Mechanical or Chassis we look for signs that a part has been removed. Such as scratches on bolts, widened phillips head screws, etc. When it appears that the part has been removed then there is no guarantee that the part was born on that car. When all the teams are finished we sit and discuss the car with the Team Leader and he asks us questions about what we see and what percentage of the components we looked at appear to be original to the car. The team Leader asks for a recommendation then the Team Leader decides how many Stars are to awarded.

So, if your car is not restored and all the parts were born on the car but you took it 100% apart to clean it you may have a problem with Bowtie judging.

I'm sure others will chime in.

It can be a fun and rewarding experience, and a pretty exclusive group too. For instance, as of 2014, there have been a total of 945 Duntov cars, but only 256 Bowtie cars, and only 135 5 Star Bowtie cars. Good luck.

Al, Below is a search result with more posts on the subject. Plenty of reading in there. The link will only last a short time as it will timeout eventually.

You can replicate the results. Go to Advanced Search, set Search string to Bowtie with "Search Titles Only" selected.
