Maybe some one is messing with you.... a bag of bolts that were "inserted" into the pile....very frustrating....LOL. Seriously, look around the car for a location that requires 6 identical bolts... not necessarily on the engine such as hood hinges or other brackets etc. that were removed for engine removal.

I think this is what occurred here. The only bolts I am familiar with on a Corvette that are configured like these bolts are the clutch cover-to-flywheel bolts. Plus, there appears to be 6 of them, the exact number that would be used for the clutch cover.

Could it be that someone did not recognize these bolts as special clutch cover bolts and substituted ordinary bolts? I would check the bolts now holding the clutch cover to make sure they are correct.

I am assuming that these six bolts were found BEFORE the clutch cover was removed. The photo provided, again I assume was when the engine had just been removed from the car, and it still has the clutch cover installed. The 6 bolts shown look like the unthreaded portion is nearly 1/2" long. I'm fairly sure the clutch cover is less than 1/2" metal so the bolts would bottom out before the cover was tight.... Just MHO

No, they will not bottom. That's because the flywheel clutch cover holes have about a 1/2" unthreaded counterbore before the threads begin. In fact, this is precisely why the bolts have the unthreaded shank and are the length and configuration seen. Standard 3/8 X 1" bolts will be all thread. Clutch cover bolts are the only ones I know of with the shank and thread configuration as seen.

Paul --- Have you removed one of the pressure plate bolts to see what it looks like? If it does not look like one of the mystery bolts then replace all the clutch bolts with the mystery bolts. If your clutch bolts are the same as the mystery bolts, then the mystery is also solved --- the shop gave you a bag of some other customer's clutch bolts.

All 72 and older and probably newer than that too. Pressure plates 2 flywheel mounting bolts are 1 inch long threaded halfway up with a locating shoulder grade 5. Black phosphate. Those bolts you have there are pressure plate bolts.

I would add that all flywheel and flexplate bolts are grade 8. But they have the thin head on them. Maybe that's why some people confused pressure plate bolts as grade 8
