AC Delco Battery for a 1966 427 c.i.?

What would be the current AC Delco Battery closest to the original for a 1966 427 c.i.? The local AC dealer suggested an Advantage Series 24A which has the following specs:
Size: 10 1/4" x 6 1/2" x 7 3/4" to top of case/8 3/4" top of post

18 mth.
$66.99

You need a group 24 battery as the dealer suggested. However, if it were me, I would not go with an 18 month battery. I'd go for the AC Delco battery with a 60 or 72 month warranty.

Bob, I agree with Joe. Use the Delco 24PG. That is the Gold model. I have had great luck with these. Size is good for using the original battery hold down.

325 cca is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay inadequate for a 427. I have a 15 year old forty dollar Johnson Controls Group 26R that I use in a couple of cars, ( a 2.2L I4, and a 2.6L I6) that is smaller and lighter than a 24, but it has 440 cca, and I think current 26Rs are over 500 cca.

You need at least 500 cca and 700 would be best.

Group 24 is the correct physical size for all C1/2, but cca ratings vary. Higher cca means more densely packed plates, and will, of course, be more expensive, but a big engine needs big cranking amps.

The AC Delco 24-5YR (60 month) battery has a rating of 525 CCA. That's the highest rating of any current Delco group 24 battery. To get a higher CCA rating in a group 24 battery, he'd have to go with some other brand (assuming that some other brand would have such a battery).
