    1967 - First Corvette

    Hey guys,

I was recently given the opportunity to purchase a 1967 coupe with the 327-350 HP engine from a family member. Its a two owner car with 27k original miles. The current owner only replaced the A/C compressor, battery, and exhaust over the last 25 years. All other components are believed to be original. The original paint is in very good condition (tuxedo black). No changes have occurred in the interior.

I used Hagerty to determine an approximate value but am looking for some pricing guidance from the forum before committing so much cash. The engine runs great. The current owner puts one or two miles on the Corvette each week to keep the system lubricated.

    Thanks!

Can you post a picture of the trim tag please. It's located beside the vin tag on a bar under the glove box. Does the car have any paper work?

I currently don't have a picture of the trim tag. The title is valid but total paperwork is unknown. Neither owner showed the car. They just enjoyed owning it. I plan on purchasing the vehicle but the additional information is unknown at this time.

Find a knowledgeable midyear Corvette enthusiast in your area to help determine the originality and condition of the car which will lead to establishing a fair market value.

To not do so will almost certainly lead to tears on the sellers's or purchaser's part.

BTW- running a car for a mile or two each week does far more harm than good. Get the owners to either drive it for a good distance or not run it at all.

John, looking at pictures it appears A/C, AM/FM radio and leather. Low option black leather with air, very rare. If frame and birdcage are rust free, minimum of $80k

              John,
Carl's number is probably pretty accurate. I would have said $70k-$80k but we havent seen things like the pad, trim tag, vin tag, chassis, etc. I would suggest contacting someone in your local chapter that would be willing to inspect the car for you if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. Cheap insurance and can keep you from making an $80,000 mistake. Good luck, its a great color combination...
I'm partial to the black/saddle combo!

UNREAL car. Car looks wonderful. Hope you buy it, so we can all enjoy it..... Good luck. Like most of the posters here said, know what you're buying before buying. They say "there are no virgins anymore" so know for a fact if it's original paint, interior, etc...If it's half the car that you described, BUY IT. Good luck... My buddy Chuck's got your twin (minus the AC, but with Duntov). ARA

but black on saddle with AC is better

I really appreciate all the input. I will get a C2 enthusiast to look over the car before purchasing. I was not really in the market for a corvette, but the story and originality has sparked my interest. If the car is truly original with minimal wear, is $80,000 the fair market value? What other options not indicated above would further increase the value of the car?

I will let you know if the tank sticker is present and what other features the car might hold.

80K is a fair market value IF its is indeed the original paint and original engine and in good condition. the only other options that would increase the value would be a BB engine option

Be sure to find out where the battery door is.

If the car has the "born with" engine and the frame and bird cage check out rust free, I think $80k is fair for both the current owner and yourself. I agree with what Michael said, though, driving it one or two miles a week will ruin that car...car needs to be driven at least 20 miles at a time to allow the water and oil to warm up and get everything else kinda moving. I hope the car is everything it appears to be and you can come to an agreement with the current owner so that you can truly start enjoying (driving) the car. Best of luck and keep us informed.

This car has the factory options factory air conditioning,L79 327/350 HP, and 4-speed and original paint that would make me buy this car.
