    1953 "Supercharged" Emblem/Badge

    Hi all,

Does anyone know of a source for a repro of one of the Supercharged emblems used on some 1953 Corvettes?

    Thanks,

    Bob

      Al,

I am working toward putting a Latham Supercharger on a 1960 Corvette and I thought it would be neat to put "Supercharged" where the FI emblem would have gone. No holes, of course, just sticky. I'll keep an eye out for one like on the concept '53. In the meantime, these $9.95 ones still look pretty good!

The four Carter YH carbs are all restored and ready to put on. All I need to do is tidy up the unit and put it and heads on the engine. It is an original CTB Z/28 LT-1 350 CI engine with 9:1 compression pistons.
      Thanks,

      Bob

        Bob,

Where did you get the setup? I saw a similar emblem on ebay .. but is not as nice as the emblem you have stated

        That's one sweet setup

          Al,

I got the Latham setup from Rick Boyd, a former GM engineer. Unfortunately, Rick died a year ago of cancer, but he held out to the end! The Latham intake is from a C1 fuel injection unit and the supercharger part is made to mate with that.

Hey Bob.. Do you have to modify the hood or use a different radiator? Do you have a top tank on your 60

This might be old information but the "Supercharged" emblem attached to the 53 Corvette was in all likelihood conceived by Chevrolet stylist and turned over to Turnstedt engineers to produce. It probably was made at Turnstedt's Flint die-cast plant, which means it has a part number. The trick would be to learn the part number, acquire the print and have an exact duplicate made. --- Good Luck!

There was an emblem like that one that was part of the Paxton supercharger kit from the 50s and 60s. I had one, but it is long gone.

                    Al,

I know the hood has to be modified on the bottom for a 56-57, but I am not 100% sure on a 60. The supercharger is low profile, but if the hood impinges on it, I will put on a different hood and save my original. Possibly one of the reinforcements on the underside may have to be trimmed. I have a top tank now, but I am going to use a DeWitt aluminum direct fit with an electric fan attached because I will drive it and I don't like watching the temp gauge go up as I sit at stoplights going through small towns!

Winter 2010 Restorer with Dave Ferguson, who owned one of the supercharged cars, on the cover in front of the YF-22 Raptor the day before he flew the first test flight in it. There's an article on the two supercharged Corvettes and although Dave has passed, Fred Neff, who owns the other one is still a member and might be able to help as to where to get the script.

I do not know if this will help; but there was an attorney in Edina, Minnesota, by the name of Fred Neff who would drive his supercharged 1953 Corvette around town on Sundays in the past. Fred was a friend of our late 1953 team leader who was a fighter pilot. If Fred is still around he might be a source for the supercharged emblems.

                          Hi Bob,
I don't know if you have seen this old magazine. The article describes the performance details of the engine in a 1957 corvette. Les Ritchey in Southern California built the engine. 13.4 @ 106 mph.
                          Kind regards,
                          Pete

One of my neighbors has a Latham on his '58 Impala. I will ask if he knows of the emblem, as he also owns a '61 Corvette.
