C1 repo fuel tank capacity???

My 57 came to me with a new fuel tank and sender so I don't know the brand. According to the info I have seen the OEM standard tanks had a capacity of 16.4 gallons. I have run mine out of fuel, added approximately 1 gallon of fuel, driven two miles to a station and could only get 12.5 gallons in this new tank.

All the current direct replacement reproduction tanks I have seen advertise 16 gallons and should be comparable to the original in capacity. With that being said, it is difficult getting the last few gallons in with the new pump nozzles and the tank design. Are you seeing fuel right up to the top of the filler neck? If not, I don't believe the tank is really full, it just may not be readily accepting the extra gas. You might also want to check the fuel vent line from the tank just to confirm it is open and un plugged . Dan
