1960 Trunk weatherstripping and trunk mat questions.

Had my 1960 Corvette judged at the regional in Newton, Iowa this past week.
It was a great experience, now just waiting for the score sheet to see what I need to do to correct a few things.
A few of the things I remember:

My trunk weather stripping doesn't have the correct logo on it. Does anyone make the correct weather strip with logo?

My 1960 Corvette is a late May car. No power top, so I need the late 1960 trunk mat that doesn't have the relief for the power top bump in the front trunk liner board. Anyone making a correct reproduction?

It was great meeting several of you, can't wait to do it again!

Re: 1960 Trunk weatherstripping and trunk mat questions.

Greg, first of all, beautiful car. Love the color combination. I can't help you with the trunk mat, but I think I can help you with the trunk weatherstrip. A couple of qualifiers first. The weatherstrip that is correct for your '60 is of the tubular type. In '59 they changed the trunk and deck lid from the L profile type w/s used on the door mains to a "tube" shaped w/s. Is this what you have on your car? Secondly, I am curious about the logo that you say yours doesn't have. The '53-'58 have an S that is surrounded by what I would call a trapezoid logo that can be found on doors, deck lid, trunk lid and hood ledge. From '59 up, it is the general belief that no logo's existed. There is some current research being done on '59-'62 w/s to determine if they had any sort of manufacturers logo on them. There is some evidence that the doors may have had a D logo, but so far no evidence of such logo on either the deck lid or trunk lid. To my knowledge there is nothing about logo's on any of the w/s for these years in the judging manual. Now, just because it's not in the judging manual doesn't mean that a qualified judge at a regional event can't add his personal knowledge as long as he has evidence that can be shown. SO, tell us what type of w/s you have and more about the missing logo the judge says is missing and I should be able to shed some light on your issue.

Re: 1960 Trunk weatherstripping and trunk mat questions.

Garry, Thank you very much for the reply. I do have the tube style weather strip on my Corvette. I also see no reference to the logo in the 1958 - 1960 judging manual concerning the 1960. I will wait for my judge sheets to be sent to me and confirm that is what they were referring to on my car. This was my first regional to have the car judged, so I learned a lot and plan to research the areas that the car received a point loss and work from there. The car scored well, so I am very pleased with the judges evaluation in all areas and look forward to correcting what I can and continue to enjoy the NCRS and all the great people!

It received a Top Flight. Picture of it is in the first post at the Iowa Regional last weekend, the white with blue top 1960.
Picture below is in the Classic Car Collection Museum in Kearney, Nebraska. I am the director of the museum, get to play with 210 cars daily!

Greg, Top Flight at a Regional is something to be very proud of. Congratulations and well deserved. Let us know what the point was taken for relating to a logo on your trunk lid w/s. For me, the point deduct is secondary to learning more about what a judge has said (and can demonstrate evidence) is missing on your model year car. Thanks again and job well done!

                Gary,

This pic shows the 53-58 weatherstrip logo. And it also shows 59-60 that has what I'd call a B, so I'd be interested, like Garry, if your judging sheets give more info since they wanted to see a D. The B is also on a friend's 1961, so 59-62 is probably the range. However, The B that I've seen is just on the door surround weatherstrip and is only about a quarter inch, if that, so it's easy to miss. I haven't seen anything on other 59-62 w/s, but maybe I just need to look even closer!

                Bob

PS: For some reason, I particularly like your car!

Bob, the original poster doesn't say that they were looking for a D as you stated. He did say that it "didn't have the correct logo", which either means it has one and is incorrect, or that it didn't have one that they were looking for. I have seen both your B and others with a D on door mains, but so far none with a logo on the trunk w/s.

The interior and top came from Al Knoch. For the interior blue parts we used PPG DDL 12234

I will wait for the point sheets to get back and see what they say. I do remember them saying something about a logo, but now after seeing your post, not certain which they referred to. I referred to you and Tom's book frequently as the car was built.
I will post what I find when the score sheets arrive.

I had three gallons of the Ermine White and one gallon of the Horizon Blue. I think I have about half of it left after doing my Corvette. I bought it all several years ago while lacquer was available. I believe it is still available in some states. Good luck with your 1959!
