1964 Fuel Injection Distributor Timing Adjustment

Can someone explain the purpose of the pin that locates the distributor to the manifold (under the wire clamp) on a 1964 fuelie and prevents the rotation of the distributor for timing purposes? How does one advance the timing with this in place?

fuel injection cars are different than carburetor ones . There is a band around the distributer that you loosen with a screw driver. this will allow you to rotate the cap.

Like Bruce said, the top of a FI distributor rotates while the base is stationary. This is because of 2 drive cables (tach & HP pump) that attach to the base. Also without the spacer the distributor would not interface with the cam correctly for it's drive. Don H.

Thank you so much. My first experience with an FI car, I'm starting to learn.

Thanks to you to Don, now that I have the answer I feel silly for asking the question. Did the 64 have the pinned spacer? This one does not appear to have it.

All Fuel Injection units used the spacer below the distributor except the early units. (I know '57 and think possibly early '58 didn't use the space but I'm not sure.) The early adapter plates (intake manifold) that didn't use the spacer had a much thicker area that the distributor mounted to. Don H.
