This is a threaded hole in the center of the console retainer that sits just behind the P/W cup .......Adjustable Rubber Bumper like those used on the hood ?? Redundancy bolt in case the rivets fail ??

Just wait till my next restoration ! Boy will I take way more notes and pictures !

Getting ready to install Console , so before I just ignore it ......

Used for the bolt that holds the center cushion.

Oh Yeah ! I forgot about that center cushion. Duh . Thanks Bob . Bolts in the front and slides into a hole in the back. (UPC 1 ASM F-11)

Now can anyone tell me exactly where the hole in the back luggage stop is ? I already covered it up in carpet .

If you put your arm rest sort of in place you should be able to find the hole. I did the same thing. I pulled the carpet back up slightly on the backside of the luggage stop until I locate the hole. Poked through the carpet from the backside.

What I found when putting holes through the carpet was I kept a propane torch handy and used a punch awl or ice pick. Heat the tip to near red hot and poke through the carpet into the hole. It burns through the carpet and seals the threads so there is no fraying.

Or use an awl and one of the pencil point soldering iron. Locate the hole with the awl and then use the pencil point soldering iron to push down into the threaded hole.

              Did exactly that .

After much probing and still not finding it, I decided to bite the bullet and pulled the carpet up a little. There I discovered it right about where I expected it to be, at least height wise. The reason I could not find it was because I was being ever so careful , with an ever so small probe , to follow my imaginary line straight up the middle . I was certain it would be dead center to the tunnel , but nooooooooooo ! It is offset to the left a bit , at least on mine !

              Thanks guys ,

I had the same problem. Mine was way off to the left. I didn't notice it when I took the car apart. Mine was off enough that it bothered me so I drilled a new hole.

                    Don,

Like yours , mine is to the left also . I changed it in my post in case someone uses it for reference later . Good thing I'm not in the Military

I don't know how much your "enough" was , but it was enough on mine that I would have never found it until I pulled back the carpeting.

I know it's somewhat of a leap after comparing only two cars , but It sounds like they were probably all off . So unlike you , I am going to use the existing hole , as I don't want to risk loosing points for over restoration or for a reproduction hole !!!

I thought you were talking about a 1966 here? No arm rest on a 66.

                        Darryl,

Here it is . I think you may be thinking of a 1967 . That is the first year that they started putting the emergency brake between the seats .
