The picture was taken putting Corvette into the main dinning room at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Oakland Hills CC is a world famous golf course hosting many U S Open, PGA and Ryder Cup events since 1917. Was a member for many years and currently live on the south course 4th green. Have never been aware of this photo but since many GM Executives were members it is not surprising they would hold some sort of major press event there. Will check this one out.

Curious where you got this photo and if there is any date or other notations on back of photo. Suspect it was a Campbell-Ewald shot and there may be others, they never took just one photograph. The U S Open was held at OHCC in 1953 (Ben Hogan won) GM was a major sponsor and it is possible your photo could have been tied to that event. Just speculation on my part!
