    Mid-year Speedometer Rebuild

    Folks,
This is an extension of a previous thread.
My odometer recently quit. So, I'm in the process of the restoration.
I've removed the dash and gauge cluster.
And, I've torn the speedometer down to the final worm gear and T-gear.
Everything went smoothly up to that point.
The problem is that nowhere can I find any information regarding the removal of those two last gears.
They appear to be press fit into the housing. They appear to be the issue.
But, I'm reluctant to start banging away in the hope that I know what I'm doing.
Should I bite the bullet and just send the unit out to be repaired?
Or, can somebody give my some guidance as to how to do this myself?
Should I do this myself? So many people post here and elsewhere that this is easy.
If so, I'd like to try it.

    Re: Mid-year Speedometer Rebuild

Jack, having been through a few cluster issues, and having had several clusters restored by Brian Tilles at Corvette Specialties, this is not a job for a do it yourself person. The problem is that we don't have all of the small parts that are required to restore and rebuild the cluster, not to mention all of the testers needed to calibrate all of the gauges once the restoration is complete. I highly recommend that you send it to Brian and have him do the work. He has all of the parts and testers to do the job right., and his work is outstanding!
