    Holley Needles & Seats questions

Id like to purchase a new needle / seat for my L71 secondaries but noticed that Holley offers multiple needle / seat sizes, ranging from .097 inches to .150 inches.

    A few questions:

    1) Why the various seat sizes?
    2) What size is correct for my '69 L71 primary / secondaries?
    3) Are the valve bodies / O-rings the same size for all seat sizes?

I've tried calling the Holley tech line but it's always busy.

Thanks very much in advance. Chris

    Hello Chris,

Until you get hold of the Holley Tech line, here is a link that may give you some info that might be helpful. I'm assuming this information is for the standard carbs, and may be different if there were changes for the ones built by Holley for your L71. If you Google'Holley 6-504', it's .110 (but that's for the standard carb).

Thanks Anthony and Don, very helpful.

What started me down this path I was having difficulty maintaining fuel level in the rear secondary. Long story short...turns out the needle/ seat threads in the bowl were damaged, causing the valve to move around...not a good situation, risk of spraying fuel etc! Damage occurred unbeknownst to me when trying to remove stuck /original valve.

Unfortunately that's the end of that bowl. It was the original. But now with a new bowl, no more worries and rock steady fuel level.

            Hey Chris,

Glad that worked out. I have a little experience with Holley's (my 72 LT-1 has one), and I know they can be a challenge. I've also called the Holley Tech line (took forever to get through). My experience is that they are somewhat helpful, but they don't have knowledge of specific applications and get their info from documents like the one I found. For example, they identified the correct rebuild kit I should get, but could not tell me which specific Power Valve (the kit comes with several) was correct for an LT-1.
