    1967 Battery Tray

Would you guys take a look at the attached picture of the battery tray in my survivor 1967 Corvette (non-air)? It does not look correct according to the assembly manual. I'm in the process of replacing the heater core in the car now and if this tray is incorrect I'd like to replace it.

If it is not correct, what is the best source for a correct one?

    Thanks

Other than being pitted it's the original battery tray or looks like it to me.

Sorry, but your pic doesn't look like a '67 battery tray to me. I say that because I don't see the weldment at the bottom for the side 'wedge' clamp. I don't have a pic of an original but this is a pic of a replacement and representative of the lower clamp feature.

The tray does not have the style clamp that grips the bottom edge of the battery. It appears to be set up for a bracket that would go over the top of the battery.

Was there only one style tray used on all '67's?

The non-AC trays that mounted on the passenger side were the type shown above and in the AIM, UPC 12, Sheet A6. The AC battery trays, mounted on driver's side, were the type that held the battery with rods and a top retainer.

            Rob,
Looking at your picture I can't figure out what holds your battery in place. As has been already stated, there are no attached clamps to hold the battery down, which would be correct for a '67 non-AC tray. If it were the type tray used in an A/C car there would be a hole on either side of the tray to insert a long J bolt...don't see those holes either.

              Leif,

The tray has the attachment points for the long J-bolt. The one closest to the engine is bent. From my research it appears that this is a '66 and earlier battery tray and not correct for my March '67 built car. The condition of the tray made me suspect that it may have been original. That is why I posed the question.

                Re: 1967 Battery Tray

My pictures are out of order of what I wanted to do. The 4th and 5th pictures show my original from my early 67 non-air VIN 1866. When I was trying to find a repro, I noted that none were made like my original and especially noted my original had a big ear where the clamp nut was. So I ended up finding a better original with a big ear at a swap meet. Maybe the design changed over the course of the year(s), but that is what I went looking for..the big ear. The other pictures are for info.
