1967 Corvette Steering Box ATTN: Joe Lucia

Can someone give me the correct stamping numbers for an early 1967 Corvette Manual Steering Box. The one in my car is a newer type but have found one with the following numbers. Can you verify if this would be correct for my car or what is the correct one (before Vin # 3000)

    Main Cast # 5677648
    Cover # 5666723 3332672360
Date Code? 30 inside an egg shaped circle with slotted screw head markings on each side

The 6th edition of the 1967 JG states the early cars had a cover with part number 5666723. On later cars, approximately Dec. 66 production and later, only had the last four digits 6723 along with a Julian date code. The Julian date is not found earlier style gear boxes.( page 167)

These are the correct numbers for a 1967 steering box. However, they are not exclusive to 1967 as the same steering gear was used for other C2's.

I don't know of any date codes on these steering gear boxes.

64-68 were pretty much the same. 63 had a different cover, 69-82 had an aluminum cover and the input spline changed later in '69.
