'64 jack storage compt. lid labels question

    Hello,
My '64 car has the std. rear differential (code CA), however my original storage compt. lid has a positrac instruction label as well as the jacking label. Was it factory practice to put the posi label on all lids, even though the car did not have that feature; or is it more likely the rear diff. was replaced with a std. unit at some point? I want to make sure I have the necessary labels in place for flight judging.
    Thanks.

It is also possible Jeff that your storage compartment lid was replaced at some point in it's life with a used original lid from another car.

I would suspect that slapping on or not slapping on labels in 1964 was a major Quality Control issue.

Know at one time the JG wanted to see labels on the other side (not on the hole side). My 64 had them similar to the 59K mile 64 as shown above, not sure if that was corrected.

I have several photographs of original lids and some had the stickers on the drivers side and some on the passengers side.

Yup. That's what my storage door looks like as well.

I think they did not want the label falling with as much glue as I see on some of them.

                      Ed,
Yes. The date code on the diff case is appropriate for the build date of the car. I believe it is original to the car.

Re: '64 jack storage compt. lid labels question

Well, there doesn't seem to be concensus as to which side of the storage lid the jacking and positrac labels should be located. Most have said the passenger side. However, the JG says typically the drivers side. So, if I locate the labels on the passenger side, am I going to get a deduction?? Also, there seems to be a lack of concensus as to whether or not posi labels were installed on all cars or just posi cars. Will I get a deduction if I add a posi label to my non-posi car? Are there any judges out there who can answer these questions? My std. diff case has the correct date stamp for my assembly date, and I believe it to be original to the car. Attached is a picture of the storage cover that came with my car which I believe to be original to the car. Thanks for the help.

Why would you want to put the decals on the passenger side when your believed original ones are on the driver side??

I installed mine on the passengers side and when judged at the Regionals a few years ago the judge deducted for it. I showed him some photos I have on my phone of originals which was of no help. Just install them on the drivers side if you are having the car judged.

Jef, I am with Russ on the placement, proof is in the pudding. These decals are not worth anything as far as Points goes, Do as you see put, but I think that there may have been days where a different guy on the line liked them on the pass. side.
