    Best C1 Windshield glass gasket

A year or so ago there was discussion about windshield glass gaskets that fit and those that did not.

Now that the dust has settled and suppliers have had time to make changes/improvements where should I buy those that fit correctly for my 54 and 55?

Troy, Many vendors sell those made by CRC, which IMO is the best Corvette rubber money can buy. They were the vendor Tom Hoyer and I worked with to get the 58-62 rubber perfected.

As long as that's the vendors' source, you should be good.

Trick may be getting the vendor to reveal their supplier.

Any vendor that is willing to follow-up and attempt to fix any discrepancies it a great vendor in my book.
I have attempted to give feedback and been told to get lost, not in those exact words but close.

I purchased gaskets for my rear window in my SWC from Corvette Rubber Corp.
I used them because of the feedback I received on this forum on the exact gasket you need.
I have yet to install the windows so I can not provide any feedback.
So very close to being ready for the install.

They did not supply the vendors with the C1 windshield rubber that Tom and I worked on.

It's Missaukee Molded Rubber, Inc. They are wholesalers. They are the guys Tom and I worked with.

Replaced my PS rear split window scratched glass with pristine, used, date-coded original piece last year with the Corvette Rubber gasket....went in flawlessly and the molding laid down flat (not like some of the repro rubber)... I bought directly from CRC...

I've installed several C-1 & C-2 windshields using CRC products bought directly from them. Never had a problem with any of their items including body weatherstrips.

Rich, I believe Missaukee Molded Rubber is the supplier to Corvette Rubber. I can only speak to the C1 line of weather strip products.

Garry, I think you're right. Makes sense. Missaukee supplies Zip(per their info), Corvette Central, and many others. BTW, when Tom and I had those issues, my contact at Zip was a big help and gave me their supplier info for the C1 rubber. I then worked with Zip and several other vendors to help them return their defective stock to Missaukee for replacements. Mike was great to work with and wanted to fix it asap.

I have ordered over 200 C1 body kits from Corvette Rubber over the last few years and they always arrive with a Missaukee Molded Rubber label. A few years back I detected the '58 hood ledge piece was being cut too short. I called Mike at Corvette Rubber and he jumped on it immediately. He got it resolved and sent me several correct length pieces to replace the incorrect ones at no charge. Good people to deal with.

Echoing yours and Rich's comments, I spent a fair amount of time on the phone with Mike exchanging information and measurement data to help get the gasket length sorted out. He was very easy and eager to get it taken care of and had a prototype for me to try in short order. It fit perfectly. Rich had the same results with the one he received.

I did try to convince Mike to modify his tooling to include the two small ribs like the originals but he was hesitant to go that far since it would involve a tooling modification. The sales volume for C1 windshield gaskets is dwindling and not near what it used to be. The ROI for him was not enough to justify the change which I can fully understand.

Either way a positive experience all around. Can't say I had much success with some of the other vendors I talked to about part quality / fitment or appearance issues.........

I bought three original GM windshield gaskets, none of which had the longitudinal ribs which leads me to believe that they are service replacements. I installed the first one after much effort and the gasket developed age cracks all around the perimeter. I pulled that one off and ordered one from CRC. In ordering it, the lady I spoke with said that they produce both a "long" and a "short gasket". Based upon Rich Mozzetta's research on the topic, I ordered the "short" version and it fits perfectly with no waviness in the corners.
