Since I drive my cars to the conventions I take advantage of the car wash set ups provided.
Recently at the Western Regional in Laughlin, NV I found the water, like all lower Colorado River water, to be very hard. Due to the high temperatures and lack of humidity the water dried on the car much faster than I could dry it with a towel. Thus hard water spots all over the place. It took me most of a day to get rid of them with instant detailer. Think about the slats on the grill of a '63 for example.
Next year's national will be in Las Vegas in an even hotter time of the year. You'll need three helpers to dry your car before the air dries it and water spots appear.
My suggestion for conventions in hard water areas is to invest in a portable Spotless deionized water rinse system. They cost about $350 from the manufacturer or Costco. https://crspotless.com/ After use in the car wash area they would make a valuable raffle prize. I bet the ticket sales would more than pay for the slightly used system.
At home I have my car wash hose bibs connected to the water softener and use the Spotless cart for the final rinse. Then blow dry with an Air Force blower. No squeegee or microfiber towel needed.
