    Opinion on carb resto finish

A while back I was able to find a correctly numbered and dated carb for my '72. I had it restored but with no references to what it "should" look like I'm not sure how it came out. I know seeing it in person and on a screen are not the same but any thoughts?? Thanks!!

I'd be interested to know who restored it, though I might guess.

To me, the carb body appears too light, possibly too light green vs medium tan, and the iridited pieces appear too dark. I would expect them to look more like the TCS bracket or the choke pull-off.

      Tom,

      First of all, beautiful engine!

IMHO, the body is within the range of normal. I've seen some with more gold/green, and I've seen some more subtle/grey than yours. The bits (linkage, flaps, fuel filter nut) may be a bit over plated compared to TFP.

Is this for personal enjoyment? Or judging? If the former, it looks super. If the latter, I doubt I would take any points for finish or condition. But I'm a rookie judge.

I have many NOS Q-Jets [none for sale]. Most of them have a finish virtually the same as seen on your carb. Some have a slightly more "goldish" coloration.

Thanks a lot. Never had a NOS carb or had one restored. Wish I had taken a pic of it before restoration. It wasn't bad, the body had nice color and the other parts were OK. The problem was that I got the carb in pieces, literally. I didn't know enough to try to put it together so a resto was my choice.

Patrick asked who restored it. It was Allstate carburetor on Long Island NY. I've been aware of them for years since I'm here on the island but never used them for anything. They were referred to me by Mr. Vinnie Peters. It's sad that I've never had the chance to meet or thank him. In the past he's PM'd me with info like this. He always seemed like a solid guy. Many of you knew him, a shame I didn't get the chance. RIP Mr. Peters

You'll get your chance to meet him. Vinnie did not pass away. It was his son that that passed away.

Not feeling real smart right now. A horror for any family. My thoughts are truly with the family.

                Tom,

Also, the original Q-Jets I've seen have a silver/clear cadmium plating on the choke and secondary air doors, not gold.

Yes, that's what I'm recalling too. No gold on my 68. Looks like zinc to me (silver in color, castings greenish gray, base plain aluminum) The photos above look pretty but not realistic.
