    1969 headlamp washers

I'm finally getting around to replacing the missing anti drip valve and not sure how the hoses route coming out of it. I've seen pictures of the hose facing the master cylinder go either to a T and then to the windshield, and other pictures showing that hose going towards the master (to the headlamps???) Which is correct? Is there a schematic showing the routing? And is the Y fitting that connects the two washer pump hoses to the anti drip valve hose a Y shape or like a straight fitting with another port leg coming in on an angle? One picture I saw (69L88) has what looks like clear tape wrapped around the T for the hoses to the windshield, looks similar to the tape used on the other check valves. Correct?? Thanks.

    Hi Mark,
The AIM on pages UPC1 Sheet D6, D7 & D8.5 show the washer hose routing. It may take a magnifying glass to follow the drawings of the hoses, but the connections are depicted correctly. I assume what you are referring to as the anti drip valve is actually the headlight washer solenoid valve. The hose facing the master does go to the windshield washers. It first goes to a check valve and then is spilt by the check valve to the hoses for each wiper arm. The check valve is black for 1969. The washer pump Y fitting is indeed a Y configuration. It is black in color, a one year only item that was never available in service (AFAIK) and very hard to find. The question about tape on washer hoses I can't help with. By the way sheet 8.5 sows a revision for the routing of the windshield washer hoses. Early cars had the hoses and check valve laying on top of the washer pump. The revision dated 1-21-69 has the hoses and check valve positioned hanging down in front of the washer pump. I hope this helps you. Some of this has been covered in posts that you may find searching the archives. The info on the Y fitting I found in the archives a few years ago when I was working on my late 69 washer system.

Thanks Larry. I ordered a hose kit from the Doc but haven't received it yet. I did locate two black check valves but not the Y fitting. If you get a chance, and no rush, could you get me approximate hose lengths of the two from the washer pump, Y to washer pump, firewall grommet to the T, and T to headlamp pump? The pictures I have, have the T in different locations, even the ones with it in front of the pump. I may be able to determine hose lengths by using pictures. Here is the picture I was refferring regarding the tape on the T, if it helps.
