1963 Trim and VIN Tag

Looks like a nice 1963 Coupe, but tags concern me. May have been removed during restoration and reattached incorrectly. Not an expert, but just wondering how badly this would hurt during a judging event. Also, pad stamp doesn't look too nice. Thanks to all those who respond.

I am no expert on tags but I compared the vin tag to the one on my 63 and it is not an original. Original 63 vin tags were welded on and the spacing of the letters in the word Chevrolet is not even close to an original.

That SN tag has been welded at some time in it's life. I seem to remember about 63-64 having a problem with the welding and a GM letter addressing the problem. The solution was to rivet the tag. That's why they started the riveting procedure on all Corvettes after 64.

The serial number lines up perfectly with the trim tag body number when compared to others. I'm far from an expert also but it appears to me that the tag was just reattached.

In the trim tag, see a few things of concern - the P in paint should have a chip out of the lower right side of the leg; the D in division usually has a deformity call Statue of Liberty; the H is Chevrolet is usually sway backed on the right hand side.

I would pass on this car if you intend to have it judged. Rivets are different on the trim tag, VIN tag has issues other than the rivets. Doubt if you would even make it past the team lead evaluation at a judging meet.

There is no logical reason to have removed these tags during a restoration.

Thanks to all for responding. Have been looking for a while for a solid car to prepare for judging and this car is not it. The search continues, which is half the fun.
