    c1 5456022 master cylinders

    1) Did GM use them on any other cars or trucks ? 2) I have read here that they are not dated so what are the other cast numbers ?

    Thanks Bob

The GM #5454480 master cylinder (cast GM #5456022) was used only on Corvettes. 5456233 may have been used on some of these master cylinders, especially early examples. However, it's possible this was only a casting number used for SERVICE master cylinders. It's also possible that some very late SERVICE master cylinders used a different casting number.

Suggest this be researched a little further. A lot of misinformation has been printed with regards this part. Start with early casting number.

        Re: c1 5456022 master cylinders

Some clarification etc. needs to be made here. Agree Brake Master Cylinder PN 5454480 was specific for C1 Corvettes. The outer configuration of this master cylinder was fairly common. The C1 master cylinder was designed 2/26/53. It had a 1" dia. assembly bore and an outboard side casting number of 5450233 from 1953 through mid 1957. The casting number then changed to 5454480 (all small letters), however the part number remained the same. Delco Moraine part number 5454480 was designated CATALOG NO. 320-G (circle K). To identify, the number 5454480 and MODEL # 320-G was stamped on the expansion plug that was inserted in front of this master cylinder. The Delco Moraine print shows a revision on 4-30-57 to the inner assembly this COULD coincide with the casting number changing to 54548022. The 56-57 JM indicates there could be an unmachined cast boss on the inboard side. This cannot be verified from the 5454480 print but MIGHT be from the casting print 5454481. At least 13 revisions were made to this part thru 6-9-67. Several of these involved the cap that was used. There is no indication a casting date was utilized. What seems odd is the fact the 56 and 57 parts books indicate this master cylinder had casting number 3206. As previously mentioned, this could be a service part only. The above comments for 5454480 refer to the years 1953 to 1957 only.
