IIRC, the story goes that the registration you show was for a blue Corvette he wrecked and totaled, and that was replaced by the silver one in the picture. The silver one was supposedly sold immediately after his death in 1970 by his manager to pay off his debts. It was supposedly sold in the New York City area. Some rumors that is was found but I don't remember if anyone actually has emerged with the car to be verified it is the one. One was checked out and was shown not to be the one Jimi owned.

My recollection from doing some research a few years ago is that he had two '69s - one in New York that was black and one in California, which is the one he wrecked.
