Do you own an original, unrestored '59 with the original weather strips?

Anyone out there own an all original and unrestored '59 or '60 with the original weather strips (either on car or saved after replacement)? If so, I would like to ask you some questions about the weatherstripping if you are willing to connect. Thanks.

    Garry,

What in particular? I don't have a all original '59 here right now but have had a few here in the past.

BTW I have 2 NOS door w/strips with the S in a diamond pattern. if you want to borrow them for your tinkering you're welcome to as I won't be using them for my own '59 restoration for a while.

Are you still looking for the door w/strip pushpin count info?

Rich, thanks for the response. Do you have access to an unrestored '59 with the original w/s? I have been doing some documenting of some markings off of an original '59 door main and I am trying to get a larger sampling than one. There may be other markings on the trunk, hood ledge or deck lid that I would like to determine as well. If you can steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

On your other offer, I also have a set of NOS as well as several older pieces of the S logo used on the 53-58 model years, so thanks but not needed. Is your '59 a very early production car? If not, the NOS door S logo'd weatherstrips would be incorrect for all but the first few '59 model years. I don't believe a real accurate count is available on just how many, but understand it is only a few. What I am working on may be more of interest to you if you VIN is later. I also got the correct count of push pins, so once again thanks.

Re: Do you own an original, unrestored '59 with the original weather strips?

        Garry,

Sorry no access to a original door, trunk, decklid w/strip '59 at this time. Rich Mauser owns a very unique '59 under restoration so I'll ask him, or he may notice this and post his own info and save me the trouble as I'm really busy on a '61 completion.

My '59 is a March 17th car, #5504. I have some early things like 58 style female hood latches(not later '60 style) and early Hardtop Receivers, door end stainless caps, early style door outer stainless trims with those long metal reinforcements that mount on top of door edge and those teeny screws that hold the outer stainless trim to it, etc. Oh, also all aluminum underdash and rocker panel reinforcements, not like later '59 steel parts, etc.

My door w/strip was replaced over 31 years ago before I got it(and still on both doors), but the doors have small holes for the pushpins, and are later white plastic T-shaped non-original body shop/aftermarket types. The doors do not have big black plugs with big holes in the doors for the pushpins.

I restored a '59, #5906 around 5 years ago and those doors had the bigger holes for the black plugs for the pushpins. I never really understood when that change happened but since my car didn't have the black plugs, and about 400 cars later #5906 did, so I guess around then may be a data point. 5906 was built about 10 days later on March 27.

Garry - I know you asked about 59's but if it is any help, I have an original 60 that I know has the original weather strips in it.

Tom, I would welcome an opportunity to discuss your '60 w/s. Can we take it off line? I will send you a private message. Thanks for your offer.
