2007 Removable see-through top noise

A friend has a 2007 w/ see-through removable top (black or darkly tinted). Recently it began to make noise while driving - it pops, crackles, & snaps (like Rice Crispies). This just recently started. It is a no hit no damage car. Dealership says, "they all do that when they get older, the top has to breathe". Is this common? Anyone else experience the same?

Not sure about the top having to breathe but there's a bulletin 08-08-67-013H (doc id # 3549757) that details the steps to fix depending on where the noise is. Mostly it involves cleaning the seals and applying dielectric grease and /or minor adjustments to the latches and locators.

I had my 2008 fixed, and had new latches installed. There is some Velcro-like material (the soft side of Velcro) that they also install as a cushion. That worked for a few years, but last year it started to make noise again.

You can see if the dealer will try to fix it, else there are other suggestions over on CF.
