The resistor to control the speed is located at the switch. It is attached and has a high temp coating over the resistor wire wrapped around a ceramic tube.

Frank, On my 1960 the pass side was connected to the + on the coil and other side was on the wire from the ignition switch from inside the car.

You can buy those real life wire diagrams that show a actual picture of the part and the color of the wire.. it was probably 2x2.5 feet in size front and back. Its like those kids coloring mats like they use to have at Shoney's and it was laminated, So if you spill oil on it, just wipe it off. It helped a lot.

Problem is... I cant remember where I bought it from as I need one for my 1954.. My had been Ebay.

I'll find out and post it.

Fred are you asking about the Interior "Heater" resistor(not a separate item as it's integral to the switch),

or are you asking about the "Ballast" resistor.(which gets hot like a heater too). I ask because you said ....."under the hood".
