NCRS Local Judging Question re:1978 rally wheels

I plan to have my 78 judged at the upcoming Local NCRS event on May 20th in MI. My 78 has rallye wheels. I have my original trim rings on my driver set of wheels and tires. They are in excellent shape. I will be showing the car with my original 1978 small white letter tires on rallye wheels installed. I prefer not remove my OE trim rings from my driver rims as I don't want to risk damaging them. Would it be acceptable to have my driver rims with my OE trim rings next to the car for the judges to review and show the car with my 1978 tires mounted on rallye wheels without trim rings? Thanks in advance for your help on this....

Has to be shown as delivered by the dealer, i.e. wheels, tires, and rings together on the car

The way it left the factory not the dealer.

A good example is a luggage rack, it was never installed at the factory, only dealer or private party installed. The exception is 1977 when it was part of the T-Top option and the luggage rack was installed at the factory.

So judging points would be lost for having a luggage rack installed on any 68-82 corvettes.

You have that backward NCRS judges cars as the left the dealership following normal dealers prep with no owner or dealer inspired options. The other judging venue cars are judged on how they left the factory.

Actually Mike, the NCRS standard IS as the Corvette left the dealer, with normal dealer new car preparation, exclusive of any dealer installed or owner inspired changes.

That is why we in NCRS don't need window stickers (Normal new car preparation removed it) or plastic on the seats or steering wheel or paper floor covering. We deduct for luggage racks, as you mention, because those are dealer installed (except as you cite). Trim rings and wheel covers are installed as part of normal dealer new car preparation and so we expect to see those items installed on the car.

Other judging organizations have different rules, but that is their choice.

It only takes seconds to remove the trim rings with a large screwdriver. I won't be there on May 20th as my son graduates from college that day. Otherwise I could remove them from your driver set and install them on your show set in only a bit more time that it took to type this sentence.

The boys have presented the party line. Now that you know the position of the organization on your query, you have the option to show up with the driver rims and the OE trim rings next to the car. Throw those judges a curve and see how they handle this judging twist. But expect a judging deduction. Its a local chapter event and if you elect to campaign the car up the food chain, you can correct to maximize the car's point total. The judging process improves when judges have to grapple with issues outside the box.
