    65 L76 fuel pump

is this pump original? and are all rebuild kits equal? also is it worth it to have the hard line re-chromed

That pump might be original to something, but not to your 1965 L76.
The original pump was 40083, with 180 degree opposed inlet and outlet, gussets on the base of the tower to main body.
you can buy a new chrome gas outlet line easier than trying to bend the one you have to fit.
If that one is not out of whack, then perhaps stripping, polishing and re-chrome plating would suffice.

There are a bunch 40083 pumps on eBay right now. The ones with the metal tags are not correct.
This one looks closest to correct.

No date after the stamped and a on the flange, part number.
Also has the frog embossing with our the two square pads like the reissued pumps.
I know the 63's had back fillister head machine screws, this one has zinc plated screws.
Possibly someone else can confirm this is correct for you application.
          Price is $190.

            Keith,
Did you really need to pull the engine to get the pump off? This is going to be fun to follow.

That add says it's a clone. But the only difference I see is where the numbers are stamped. Am I missing something else?

And Leif we found some spider webs and a spot of oil. So we are going to pull the body

Well it looks like the color of the retaining screws might have been correct!
Still interested in how the Judges handle an item like this, with the correct manufacture and the correct part number but not the correct style orignal casting?
                    Thanks for the great picture.

Notice the two gussets in Don's photo? Production 1965 40083 fuel pumps had those two gussets. As for the bottom of the fuel pump, '65 production 40083 pumps had either the AC cast bottom or the two-lobed stamped steel bottom. Either is correct.
