    Jet-Hot, are they good

A friend of mine is not satisfied with paint and wants a ceramic coating on his 62 exhaust manifolds. Anyone ever use Jet Hot and if so how did they do.

    Re: Jet-Hot, are they good

Chester, I have not used Jet Hot, but another option is POR-15 manifold coating. I have used it on the last 3 engine restorations and am extremely pleased. Coating stayed exactly the same as the day I cured it during engine break-in in all cases. I thin it apx 25% with acetone to spray it on. Can also be brushed on. No special cure cycles needed. Last few times I let them soak in the sun all day after spraying and it seemed to cure before I even ran on the engine. Both BB & SB examples below.

Ceramic coating may give the manifold a smooth appearance.

How is the Por15 any different from the spray can of VHT 2000 degree cast spray? Looks the same. I've had VHT on my cars for years and drive the '65 all over. The '65 is just starting to show signs of the paint giving out. Will need some touch up the bead blast cabinet and some paint respray when I get around to it.

As far as the ceramic coating on the headers on my '57 Nomad they are not enduring so good near the cylinder heads.

Chester, Jet Hot coated my headers inside and out in '97 and they still look new with no corrosion in or out. I would use them again but the look is not factory. Steve

Gene, I stopped using VHT years ago after using it on a'63 250 hp engine cleanup. After proper cure cycles and continued use, it turned to a GOLD hue. We talked to them but to no avail. They obviously changed their formula.

We had to redo them. POR 15 made them right.....albeit not as the TFP appearance but we wanted longevity.

Chester, I used the same POR-15 that Rich used on my small block manifolds. They look good - just like Rich's photos.

Agree does not look like virgin casting but looks nice (as in not correct but better than rust). I can't say mine ever discolored but over the years did break down and show some rust. But we are talking over 15 years.

Photo's look real good. Jet hot claims their coating will lower engine bay temperatures.

Chester I had the exhaust manifolds coated by Jet Hot in Burlington, NC approx. 5 years ago and have had no issues since then. Besides they warranty them.
