    2 electrical problems on 62

    Couple of electrical problems
    1. Fuel gauge registers 1/4 full even when tank is full. /Needle on gauge will rise from 0 to 1/4 when key is turned on but stays there. Bad tank sending unit?
    2. Recently, instrument lights quit coming on. Switch activates headlights and the dash map light but not speedo and instrument lights. On a C2 replaceing switch cured problem. Is this what I need to do on the '62? Car has halogen brights, don't guess this load is burning out part of light switch? Doesn't feel hot.

Bill, I recently had a 59 I replaced the float on the sender' it was heavy from fuel being internal , causing the tank not to register correctly. the brass floats are avail. at the venders. Dash lights sounds like a bad rheostat which is part of the switch, I don't know if the dash lamps are fused on 62's, but check any way first.

Should I just "assume" it's the float and buy only the float or pay $70 bucks for the whole sender, float package and be done with it?

Bill remove the sender first and check float, not all that bad to remove. I one I did had gas sloshing around inside the float. and this will give a chance to move the float up and down to see if the sender may be working.

I checked the fuse in the fuse block labeled "instruments" and it's good. Must be the rheostat part of switch, I'd think.
