Michael: Thanks for posting the tanker article; it's a fascinating subject. I'm sure you're aware that the 300 SL Coupe (Gullwing) came standard with a 34.5 gallon fuel tank. It didn't leave much room for luggage in the trunk.

                      Michael,
Did your 66 Silver tanker come from the Sacramento area? I saw one like it at the NCRS meet a couple of years ago, and then again at a local car show at AERO JET later the same year. If it's the same car, I thought it was a beauty, and looked original/unrestored to my untrained eyes. Either way a, nice car indeed.

I was not familiar with the MB, but I knew they had a snazzy set of custom designed luggage to fit behind the seat. I wish the Corvette tankers had that........

Thank you. Yes, that was it, it came from a long time NCRS member and caretaker of the last 35 years. Much of the car is unrestored, but things like paint, carpet, seat covers, etc. have been redone/replaced (it actually has been repainted by the original owner, within six months, from silver to black with a red hood scoop, to pearl white with blue flames, to dark blue, and back to the original silver pearl by 1980) , but most a long time ago so it looks original.

Thanks John, if I feel they are being neglected and under-exercised I know who to call. See you in Laughlin, and hope you are driving that gorgeous fuelie with the high speed tires and knock-off wheels........
