      Part of the reason I didn't give you a direct answer is that I don't have my 1969 AIM in my office area -- it is in my detached garage and I had neither the time nor inclination to retrieve it.
      I did note my 1970 AIM shows a bolt in that location, rather than the stud. Pay no attention to that visual detail. The UAW workers installed the part number that was available to them without consulting the visual details of the AIM. The head configuration of fasteners and style of hose clamps illustrated in the AIM is often less than accurate.

      Similarly the illustration of the curve of the brace may be less than accurate in the AIM. The AIM is a good resource for what it is, but it does have limitations. The trick is to know those limitations.

      Your conclusion about the lack of paint is correct.
