Re: Dow Smith paper work
I'm getting right side door skins convertible . Looks like a shipment with 50 weighing 340 # to AO Smith Ionia, Mich. plant Sept. 30/65. There's something rarely seen. A fiberglass supplier tag left on before a door was assemled. John Hinckley could probably explain it's use best.- Top

Re: Dow Smith paper work
Keith I believe the customer area says Dow Smith Inc. Ionia Division. Dow took over that plant in 63 and by 64 made almost all the corvette panels at that time. They used them there in Mich. and shipped them to St. Louis. Jan. 65 makes sense for the date. 18093 is probably Dows part number, 3854678 is GM's early part number. It appears from your tag they grouped 50 together for handling and your dad's car got the tagged one used in Mich. I've never seen one of these. Sheds more light on production handling.- Top

Re: Dow Smith paper work
Then it would seem one of every 50 cars should have this tag. I was disappointed not to find one in the drivers door. Also strange on the bulk head in front of the gas tank the job number is 445 and on the luggage stop it has only 44 written on it. But nothing on the doors. Haven't removed the dash yet to see if it's back there. And on fire wall I can faintly make out the 445- Top
