Can a relay (in this case, 3961573) be reapired?

The seat belt buzzer warning relay, 3961573, on our 1972 is inoperative.

I removed the cover and lightly sanded the two sets of contacts inside. I confirmed that the wires leading to the relay are powered when they should be, and are dead when they should be.

I see no obvious broken wire on the magnet coil or internal welds that would cause it to fail.

Replacements are readily available on ebay, but if there's something else I could look for to make a repair to this one, I'd like to do so. Any ideas or suggestions? Or is this relay junk?

    Thanks,
    Larry

Larry, be sure that the coil contacts have continuity. If they don't the relay is junk, not repairable. I have one and checked it by powering it up directly to a battery and it worked fine. Be sure it's not a problem with the wiring in the car before sourcing one. If the relay is junk let me know.

      Tom,

Thanks; I didn't think of a continuity test. I did one, and one of the two circuits in the relay is no good. The car wiring is working the way it should; I'll replace the relay for a fix.

      Thanks for your help.

This relay was also used for the TCS system on early 70's Corvettes. However, there were 2 different configurations for the same part number that "evolved" over the years of SERVICE availability of this relay. Inasmuch as the relay used in the seat belt system is not visible when installed in the car, I really don't think it matters as to which configuration you obtain.

          Hey Larry,

I have the relay you need if you want it. Got it with a bunch of parts and it has no function on my early '72. Since we can't sell stuff here I guess I'll have to just let you have it. Let me know if my terms are OK

            Tom,

You drive a hard bargain. Seriously, that's a kind and generous offer; yes, I'd be glad to have it. Do you have a PayPal account I can use to reimburse you for postage, etc? I'll PM you my address.

            Thanks very much,
            Larry

              Joe,

Thank you for that info. It looks like I have found a replacement, thanks to Tom.
