    454 Hood Emblems

Were barrel clips used to mount the 454 emblems on the 1973 hood? Or, did the factory use just cement?

    George------

The emblems were supplied with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. The protective pull strip was removed and the emblem applied to the hood. This same system was used for the "Stingray" side emblems for 1969-E1977.

The 73-74 454 hood emblems are still available from GM under the original part number of GM #336119 but they carry a GM list price of almost 100 bucks, each.

Thank you Joe. I do have two GM emblems. The GM boxes are marked 75G8, 1 # 336119, GR.8.147, EMB.ASM. There is a green plastic strip about 1/16" thick on the backside of each emblem. I assume this green material is what I remove and then press the emblems into the 3 holes in the hood. Is that correct?

I don't recall the protective film on the adhesive to be 1/16" thick. My recollection is that it's extremely thin, virtually paper thin. You might be looking at the total thickness of the adhesive + protective film. Be careful that you don't peel off the adhesive. However, I think you'll find that the protective film comes off rather easily while the adhesive would only come off with much difficulty.
