Yet Another Reason to Belong to NCRS

No technical questions tonight. Just one great thank you to NCRS and the members!

Today, thanks to some awesome body jacks offered up by Bill Naeger and Dennis Hardesty, my 66 roadster body has been liberated from it's frame for the first time in nearly 51 years!

The contacts with Bill and Dennis started with a desire to find someone to rebuild the headlight motors. I found an ad in the Driveline and how lucky was it that the guy doing headlight motors, Bill Naeger, lives in the town where I'm working on my car, Edwardsville, IL. The night we stopped by to pick up the motors, Bill mentioned some jacks that he and his buddy Dennis had that work great for lifting a body. He and Dennis offered them to us and OMG, we are so happy we didn't attempt to lift the body with straps and an engine hoist. The NCRS community is the best!

The body now rests on the dolly and the frame is being prepped for blasting and paint.

I couldn't have done this without the help of the NCRS!

    Cheers,

While the Vettes are nice and fun, its the members here that make this club fun

It's great having all of these talented people around. And, just last week, Bill Naeger gave a presentation at our monthly NCRS St. Louis Chapter dinner meeting on restoring C2 steering columns. It was a hoot when he walked into the dining room carrying a long gun case containing one restored tele-column and one not yet restored.

Thanks Ed. Pretty simple C3 design I found on TDB, adapted to the C2. ~$225 in materials, wood, bolts and casters. Hopefully I can pass it on to another member after we're done.

Mike, Good for you! Nice feeling isn't it? Now the fun begins.

Those Jacks are very clever. Are they scratch built or older stock designs that someone modified?

PS You should do a follow up thread for us to follow your restoration. It's fun to watch "other" people work!

                Hey Rich
Those jacks are the best. I borrowed them from 2 St Louis area members I linked up with recently. They are two old truck bumper jacks that have been equipped with arms that fit perfectly on the body side rails. What a godsend. My brother and I had planned to use an engine hoist and straps for the lift. Thank goodness we didn't have to do that.

I will I'll keep posting along the way. They won't be quite your quality but hopefully will be useful. Btw I really appreciate yours. They are very helpful.

                  Hey Bob
i haven't done the measurements along the way but I believe the body sits about 20" high at the body side rails while setting on the body dolly. The jacks raised the body to about 36" with additional lift capability. The jacks are awesome!

                  cheers
