    NCRS Certification Preparation Service

My son recently purchased a beautifully restore two owner numbers matching 1966 roadster 427/390. Prior to purchase we had an NCRS judge perform an evaluation to identify any issues that would arise during the Top Flight certification process. The judge provided us with a very detailed report identifying those issues - all very minor. The car is kept in south Florida but my son lives in London and does not have the time or knowledge to make the necessary changes. Can anyone recommend a well regarded professional in the Florida/Georgia area that provides that type of service? Our goal is to ready the car to take it through the Chapter/Regional and National NCRS Top Flight certification process. Thank you for any advice you can offer.

    Hello Dan
well, people don't seem to be tripping over themselves to answer your question that has been up for 12 hours. It may be that the title of your thread is confusing. I think that 'looking for a mid-year restoration shop in So. FLA area' might work better. What you are looking for is a shop that has a track record of producing top flight cars and that will sort out a list of things on your son's car. One such shop that is unfortunately not in So. FLA but rather is in Punta Gordo is Marco Hartner's Midyear Factory. There must be others in So. FLA area. One way you might find such shops if no one helps out here is to contact the FLA Chapter of NCRS, hopefully join it (or have your son join it) and inquire of long time members there like Tyler Townsley, Joel Steiglitz, and/or others listed in the contacts.
Here is a link to the FLA Chapter contact list.

You might also look in the Member List under Community in the tiny tool bar above and find Ara Gechijian and/or Richard Mozzetta and drop each a note. Both are in FLA somewhere and are well versed in the restoration shops in their areas. Members are listed by first names.
    good luck

      Dan,
Trust and reputation of getting your sons Corvette done correctly is number 1, while I was over at the NCRS Florida chapter meet this Jan, I ended up in a bar one night with the guys / company that carried out the restoration on the L88 think it was Jeffs from Texas which was awarded a top flight - I can't remember the company's name - think there was a Frank and Frank Jr they worked out of Florida, great guys.
Contact Chuck Berge 703 754 1960 , still cruisin corvette , he can help out / advise.
      Best of luck Keith

Keith, you must be referring to Frank Tetro and his son Frankie at Harbor Auto Restoration. Unreal work they turn out. Marco does fantastic work as well. You can't go wrong with either shop.

Dan, i would be happy to give you any guidance you need or recommendations, help, phone numbers, etc. Feel free to reach out. Do things once, do things right and don't have to do them again. Have fun. ARA

Thanks guys for all the great advice and Don you are correct, my subject line could have been better worded. The restoration shop does not have to be in south Florida but finding one in Florida is a plus. Patrick (my son) is an NCRS member but has not yet joined the local chapter. I will reach out to Frank and Marco as suggested. Personally I have a three time Top Flighted 66 roadster but live in North Carolina so I am not familiar with the Florida NCRS guys. Keith any phone numbers or website info would be greatly appreciated.

              Thanks!!

Thanks gents, but I'm now retired(or at least trying to) and taking a break after the '61 project I'm on to be done mid April.

Frank Tetro and his staff are outstanding. Frank is a good friend too, and I'm heading to his house tomorrow afternoon so I'll have him take a peek at this thread.

                        Re: NCRS Certification Preparation Service

Over the last few years, Frank's place has probably impressed the Judging Communities of both NCRS and Bloomington with outstanding Corvettes. Even many Corvette Best in Class awards at the Concours d'Elegance events. How often does that happen? I've been there to see this stuff. On several occasions, I've gone with Frank to these events and shotgunned along with him. Frank is a very good friend and in the Top Ten of my Hero list. We help each other and have lots of fun together.

His last few cars at the '17 NCRS Lakeland Regional, a '67 L71 and a '69 L88, attained mid to high 99s.....FIRST time out. Not to mention a '69 L89 PV Pass, which BTW got a mid 99 first time out in Frisco at the Oct '16 Regional. Then he gets them back to the shop, fixes those few points deducted here and there for the next time. Then he goes again, and they find another few points somewhere else(not uncommon, just the way it is). Then he goes back and fixes those things......Repeat.

Oh, BTW, he's a Classic & Antique Lincoln, Packard, Chevy, Ford, Mopar, Hot Rod, Etc, and Cadillac restorer too! Bests in Class at Hilton Head, Boca Raton, Amelia Island, Pebble Beach and many others. He probably has some of the finest quality restorers working there and it's a family place. Frank's brother Bill keeps the crew stocked with all of their needs and both he and Frank oversee and maintain their huge facility. Both of their wives run the extremely complex array of Business needs so Frank and Bill can stick with the complex array of Restoration needs. Bill's son Willy has passionate skills and is a Mechanical genius. Frank's son Frankie has amazing passion for detail and the results always show it. I know the entire staff there and have seen the results of their work and they all have the same passions for excellence. I've had the opportunity to spend some time there on occasion playin' around with the cars and have seen it. I especially like it there when I arrive before the lunchtime order gets called in.

I am certain there are many Restoration shops with similar attributes and abilities. I'm just fortunate to live near this one and to know these folks and have had the pleasure to experience it first hand. If I wasn't Retired..... or "Retard'd" as Frank calls it, I'd love to work there with them all.

Thanks again guys for all this wonderful input and confirmation that Frank and his team at Harbor Auto are at the top of everyones list for NCRS certification preparation. I spoke with Frank yesterday and he is interested in working with us to ready Pat's 66 roadster for certification. I have shared our pre-purchase NCRS grading notes and an extensive number of pics that were posted on Greg Wyatt's web site. I cannot thank you guys enough for leading me Frank and his team.

                          Best regards,

I'm going to show my pedantic side with these comments I cringe a little when I hear the word 'certification' associated with Flight Judging. Flight Judging, whether at chapter, regional, or national level, is an opinion of a group of judges on how a car is evaluated against the criteria listed on the Flight Judging sheets. That opinion may differ between the different venues and judges. Nothing is certified during Flight Judging.
As they say, "results may vary"

                            Ok, I feel better now.

                              Correct, judging is subjective.........PERIOD.
