I believe Eckler Corvette supply in Tidusville FL acquired the GM tooling severaly years ago. Your list price is correct but you need to add to that $150 for shipping.

      George,

If you have the time and interest, consider performing some of the paint/body prep yourself. Refinishing a car well requires a lot of tedious, time consuming yet simple work. Things like removing and installing trim, bumpers, carefully bagging and tagging all the parts requires a lot of time but only basic skills and hand tools. Even minor fiberglass repair (small cracks and defects) is easy to do once you learn the process and doesn't require much special equipment. (Tip: If you're nervous about tackling repairs for the first time on your Corvette, practice on a scrap panel discarded by a shop.)

This work alone can greatly reduce the cost at the body shop. They tend to charge the same hourly rate for grunt work as they do for skilled labor. Also, this provides control of what's removed versus just masked off, ensures your original trim and fasteners are not lost or swapped from another car, and gives you the opportunity to detail all the small parts the right way.

If you really get into it, you may even prep the body for paint. This requires know-how, and there are beginner mistakes to know and avoid. Learning through books and YouTube is possible. You may also find classes at a local community college or trade school.

I appreciate your comments. Having the proper space and place to do the work is an issue. Two car garage with the 73 on one side and my wife's car on the other. Two more sitting outside. Not much room to play arround. I would need to rent an off-site garage and sanding and water access may be an issue. Not sure but love the idea. About 2 years from retirement and that project may just be be my salvation. However, having owned the car for 37 years my wife of 53 years just wants it done!! Thanks

This describes my situation exactly. All tool chests are wheeled to easily reconfigure the garage as a workshop or two car parking. When ready to work, I pull the wife's car out and set up the workshop. I restored and painted my car in this space.

I can certainly relate to that. May just get the front nose done (new OE bumper cover), repair the samll crack in the right rear panel (my wife did that) get that painted and let it go at that. This car is like a Florida, "sink hole". Money, money, money.
