What's the best red line reproduction tire for judging my 1967?

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get advice for which reproduction red line bias-ply tires will judge best for my 1967. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Kurt,
Most members by them from Coker Tire. In 1967, all tires did not have any DOT markings. These are DOT tires and are subject to the Standard Deduction of 3 points.

All bias ply tires flat spot from sitting. It disappears after driving a short distance. No Cokers aren't junk.

I like the Kelsey Goodyear Redlines, they judged very well just lost 3 points for DOT. I also drove 900 miles round trip to Minnesota Regional last year and boy was I surprised at how well they rode and drove, I ran 70 mph and they rode as good as any radial I was shocked. I would buy them again in a heart beat. John Kelsey is a great guy to deal with and he donates/auctions his tires at a lot of Regional's and the National.

And to clarify, the loss is three points for all four, not per tire.

Actually the three points is for all 5 tires. If you have a real spare it's only 2 points.

Yes it breaks down to ( 5 tires = .6 per tire ), so for 4 tires with DOT you lose 2.4 points rounded down to 2 points as long as your spare is non DOT.

Diamond Back is supposed to come out with a radial that looks exactly like a bias ply. The introduction keeps getting delayed and I haven't heard anything yet.

Do any members have any knowledge or information?

only downside to kelsey tires is the spare OD is too great to fit in the tire tub, even uninflated. i'd guess about an inch of the OD would have to be ground off for the tire to fit. otherwise the kelsey tires surpass the cookers. mike

Flat spotting happens with all nylon bias ply tires. Therefore, bias ply ones with polyester cord is superior. However, I notice in the 1967 TIM&JG, that the option QB1 red stripe tire was of nylon construction. Therefore, unless it is nylon a deduction should be in order, since a polyester cord one is NTFP materials. The P92 black wall and white wall tires were rayon, which will be impossible to find in a reproduction I think, but again, a polyester tire (or nylon one) should be a deduction I think.

I agree. I will never again get any Coker tire in radial or bias. In my opinion they are not even good enough to be called junk.

I just got an email from Rusty @ Diamond Back. Their radials that look like bias ply will be out in about 6 months. The size he mentioned was 6.70x15.(For a 63). I'm sure they will have applications for all C2's and beyond.

Kurt: I have a funny feeling you don't want to wait that long. If that's the case, those Kelsey Good Year Redlines are looking pretty good.
