    C-1 Fuel Pump 4656

I'm sorting some parts and came across a 4656AX fuel pump. There is no AC on the top and the cover on the bottom is blank, no AC. Is this a service replacement over the counter back in the day? The screws are a blackened slotted fillister head like the originals, and the stamping 4656AX is the same font as my original and it has a parting line, (mould mark).

This could be a SERVICE fuel pump which AC manufactured but supplied to another brand for sale under their brand name (on the box).

i bought about a hundred ac fuel pumps about 20 years ago out of a garage here in town that went out of business in the 70's. all were in AC boxes and all had the AC logo embossed on the pumps. there were few chevy pumps. i've used their guts to rebuild chevy pumps. before ethanol. had a few fail when exposed to the devils brew in current gasoline.never seen a non_AC embossed pump in an AC box. mike

        Mike------

Back in the day, you would not have found a non-AC-branded pump in an AC box. However, AC ceased all manufacture of mechanical fuel pumps a very long time ago---at least 25 years. After that time, all AC and AC/Delco mechanical fuel pumps were manufactured by outside suppliers and, thus, lost their AC logos.

Today, AC is, essentially, a "non-existent entity". The vast majority of AC/Delco parts are manufactured by non-GM manufacturers.

Mike, This pump was on my 59 before I restored it and survived the corn gas. As Joe indicated, it may be a generic pump manufactured by someone else, but the AX after the number is puzzling.
