1963 bolt what for near radio

Took the shifter plate off to put a new side trim in place and found this bolt - am guessing it must do something and hold something quite big in place ref the size, but the bolt was loose and when the black shield rhs is put into place it just covers it - AIM sheet A23.00 has it as item 25 the radio is already in place and firmly - am I missing something

Yes, looks like your missing the bracket on the radio. Look at all the pictures in this auction.

The radio normally has a bracket spot welded at the bottom which that bolt holds. It appears your radio has been worked on. Maybe it was left off or possibly 63 didn't use it in some cases. I have a 64 radio here and the side looks quite different than the one you showed. There was the wonder bar am radio used up to about vin 12000 and later am/fm radio used in 63. Maybe someone with a wonder bar can tell if they have the bottom bracket. If the bolt is there and no bracket, is the bolt just stuck in that hole? It does appears to be a non original bolt. If the radio seems firm in the dash and your not going off roading, I would't worry about it.

As I recall all 63 radios AM and AM/FM had that bracket.

I think Harry is correct all of the 63's am and am/fm had the bracket. It has been a little while since I had the cover off and looked at my radio but I don't recall my radio having all of the openings in it that one has. Is it a 63 radio no matter I think all of the mid years had the bracket. The correct bolt should be one of the typical indented head bolts like the ones used to hold the seats down to the floor and in many other places on the car.

I was just on eBay and noticed a 63 am radio listed and there is a nice picture of the bracket http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Corvett...p2056016.l4276
