Re: opinions on my engine paint

I just brought my engine home from the machine shop today. I have always used the Plasti Kote Hi temp engine Chevy orange with good results. What's the consensus out there in case there is a better brand ??

    Thank you

Will the Cast Blast base coat cause a deduction?

Re: opinions on my engine paint

The top right picture in post #1 shows the oil filter area. I know the face where the oil filter gasket seals to the engine should be masked off. Was any more masked off than just the face?

        Thanks

[QUOTE=Ron Goduti (8076);828118Flint engine assembly plant painted the engines with an oil based paint and switched to a waterbase in January 1, 1971. Original paint that was used was from Sherwin Williams, part number JK7892.

            Ron,

Did they use the new paint through 1976? And who was the supplier?

              Patrick,

The answer is yes it was water base from the same supplier through 1976 before they started painting the engines blue. I reached out to you the other day in regards to a possible supplier for the 1977 frame paint that you asked me about. - Ron

No luck in looking through the list you sent, FYI.
I checked before I left for the Greenville Regional.

Was the Jan 1971 date listed in GM records?
At the Regional someone thought the switch might have occurred in mid-72 instead of mid-71.

Re: opinions on my engine paint

Thanks Ron. I heard from others who were of the same opinion so I did apply more paint on the bottom of the oil pan when I posted this originally. The engine has since been dyno'd (351HP) and has since been installed on the chassis. Car is at the shop now and should be getting painted in the next couple of weeks.

                  Mike
