    best ignition points for 1963-71

I want to carry a spare set in each one of my cars ('63, '67 S/B, '67 B/B and '71 S/B). What's recommended from either NAPA, Rock Auto or Car Quest? I assume that having a condenser is equally important.
I look forward to your advice and thank you for it.

i would use Delco D-106P from the "foil" boxes. Made in USA and easily acquired on EBay. Likely for less than you would pay at NAPA etc. Delco D-204 condensers would be recommended also.

Mallory and Blue Streak used to have nice set. I don't know if they are still available.

See the attached article. A serviceable used set is perfectly acceptable as an emergency spare. Prior to removing, set the dwell angle at 30 degrees.

I've always had a preference for Blue Streak's "LubriPoints & Condenser Assembly", DR-3575CX. It features standard spring tension so it's gentle on the cam, an integrated point/condenser assembly so it's easier to install on the roadside, a built in "LubriWik" with "factory impregnated special cam lubricant" to keep the rubbing block clean and greased, and a copper base which looks neat.

BlueStreak was Standard's premium brand made in the USA. I don't think they're made any longer, but I still see sealed boxes on eBay.

It's hard to say if they perform any better than AC Delco points, but their look and finish is nicer.

                Ric------

Ever since they were first introduced in the very early 70's I've preferred the Uni-Set breaker points. These combine the points with the condenser. In addition to easy installation (especially important when installing a spare set when on-the-road), they offer other advantages. For one thing, the condenser and point set are factory matched. This helps reduce "metal transfer" between the contact points. For another thing, the contact points seem to be better aligned and there's extra reinforcement to maintain proper alignment. Also, every time I installed one of these sets I found that the dwell angle turned out to be just right without any further adjustment. So, these point sets are pretty much "plug-and-play" which can be a particular benefit for a repair "on-the-road".

The Uni-Sets are still available from AC Delco (D118 or D1007) as well as Standard Motor Products (which, I believe, is the current manufacturing source for AC Delco). I think those currently available are foreign-manufactured (Mexico, I think) but that does not make them bad. But, if you want a USA manufactured piece you can find NOS AC Delco on eBay for modest prices.

Standard Motor Parts "Blue Streak" Uni-Set style points are also great. You can obtain these under Standard Motor Parts #DR-3575C.
